For those of you just starting out online gambling, we have developed this comprehensive online casino gambling glossary to help you understand the most widely used terms and definitions in the online gambling world. Of course, it is not essential to be familiar with all these terms in order to play, but they're still good to know. Have fun.

  • Baccarat
    A card game played in casinos in which two or more punters play against the banker. The player who holds 2 or 3 cards that total closest to nine wins.
  • Back Counting
    A technique used by blackjack card counting experts. They sit behind active players and count the cards, waiting for the count to be favorable before sitting down.
  • Backtrack
    The outer rim of the wheel in roulette where the ball spins; also referred to as 'Ball-track'.
  • Banker
    The casino dealer in card games.
  • Bankroll
    The amount of money you have at the online Casino. Also known as 'Roll' or 'Wad' (colloquial). It relates to the overall money that either the player or the casino has at disposal to back their wagering activities. A player's bankroll can be classed as existing on several different levels.

    At the highest level it relates to all money specifically set aside to support all gambling activities. A subset of this bankroll is the players traveling bankroll, or the amount of money carried along to support gambling on a particular trip. This traveling bankroll can be further divided into a specific lesser amount for each day of the trip, or into even smaller amounts called table sitting or session playing stakes which predetermine how much will be risked during any given session or table sitting at this particular day of the trip. These different types of bankrolls often figure into the overall money management strategy players use to keep control over their gambling cash activity.
  • Barred
    Same as Banned. Not allowed to enter the casino's premises permanently.
  • Beginners Luck
    In gambling, new players often are on a winning streak when they start gambling. Also known as the "Honeymoon Period".
  • Betting Limit
    The maximum and minimum amounts a person can gamble in a single bet at a casino. This will depend on the game and the odds of the gamble you are making.
  • Biased Numbers (Roulette)
    This refers to numbers that continue to come out in the game, caused by biased wheels.
  • Bingo
    A game of chance played with cards having a grid of numbered squares corresponding to numbered balls drawn at random. The first player to mark a complete row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) of numbers is the winner. Cards need to be purchased before the game and proceeds are placed into a common pot - winning cards are awarded a portion of the pot.
  • Bonus
    The amount awarded to a player for free based on his or her deposits is referred to as deposit bonus or just bonus.
  • Bonus Balance
    The total playable balance a customer can use at the casino is split between the bonus balance and the cash balance. The bonus balance houses bonus credits, but can not be withdrawn until they have been converted to the cash balance, after meeting the wagering requirements.
  • Book
    A gambling institution or person who accepts action on sporting games.
  • Bookmakers
    In the sports gambling world, "bookmaker" is a person who accepts wagers on sporting events. Bookmaker is the term most often used when referring to someone who operates legally, while "bookie" usually is the term used to refer to a person who accepts wagers illegally.
  • Bottom Track
    Bottom Track is the inner area of a roulette wheel that slants or remains stationary, where the ball slides before bouncing from the wheel into one of the pockets.
  • Break Even Point
    When a player has received the same amount of online casino winning as he has gambled.
  • Broken Game
    A game no longer in action.
